Follow up report this turkey season

Hey guys just got back from [location deleted] turkey hunting with brother Dan and thought I would drop you a line about the hunt. Section [location deleted] proved to be void of turkey on Friday, or at least they were not very vocal, so Dan and I hunted on section [location deleted] Sat and Sun morning. I managed to call in my best gobbler of the year, he and 3 other turkey came in very cautiously. After a few purs, they would get no closer that 50 yards, they seemed very nervous. I wanted to see how the knight muzzle-loading shotgun would perform at that distance. Mercy, how surprised I was when it leveled the bird with some distance to spare. I stepped it off and came up with 48 yards. I also got this turkey hunt all on video, and did a much better job during crunch time, capturing all the action from behind my ground blind which I wrote about in my [location deleted] hunts.

I measured the beard at 11 inches and 1 1/8 spurs, and just guessed The weight at 20 lbs. +\-  Kansas has a "big bird category" if you will, at 65 points, and this bird came in at 64.5 without an official weight it was close to receiving a certificate.

This is a reflection of the quality of turkey on the land which the Club leases. We had several hundred acres of land all to ourselves, with no one in sight, it was very peaceful.

I did manage to score on a second tom on Saturday morning while walking back to the truck, did a sneak through a ravine while the turkeys were feeding up on top of a ridge. He was a nice tom, however was smaller than the first. With the [location deleted] turkey, that completed my "club slam", scoring birds in all three states which the club has land leased in.

The enclosed picture is of the bigger turkey in the field where I took him, which was just east of the old abandoned farm house on the lane in section [location deleted].

Brother Dan saw many turkeys, however did come up short on a nice tom. Being it was late in the season, the turkeys were very nervous and cautious about coming into his setups.  Oh well, there is always next year, and we will try to come about two weeks earlier when the toms will be love sick.

Thanks again for a super time and a quality place to turkey hunt.

First report from his second turkey season

Hey guys, just wanted to drop you a line and some pictures from my second year membership turkey hunts. Pic 945 was from [location deleted], with my muzzle loading shotgun. Mercy, the advice you wrote about [location deleted] going untouched was an understatement. Only having a couple of years of experience, I don't see how a man could have any better time in the turkey woods. I literally was over run with turkey from first light. I had my pick of six gobblers early the first morning, taking this nice long beard with my muzzleloader. And better yet, there was not a sole on any of our leases in that area, no gunshots, and not even a neighbor turkey hunting in the area. I got some armature video film from behind my little pop up blind, (pic 946), got most of the action, however I need some more practice during crunch time. I sure had an exciting turkey hunt in [location deleted].  Thanks for securing such wonderful land in that area.

I loaded up the camper and headed to [location deleted], to a property which looked good on the terra server. Not having a lot of turkey hunting experience, I picked a farm that had some secluded farm fields not visible from the road. Sure enough, the hunch paid off with another nice tom first thing in the morning, as he and several other turkeys made their way from the timber out into the corn stubble. Again the pop up blind (pic 952), (kind of a half tee-pee), was very effective on the fence row. Once again I had a quality farm to myself and didn't see or hear another sole the entire day, turkey hunter or otherwise.

In closing, what a wonderful way to enjoy God's creation in the wonderful world of the outdoors. Successful or not, it was just a blessing to be in a part of the country that has seemed to forget the modern day hussle-bussle of the big city. I had a very exciting and peaceful trip, thanks for the great time.
