Turkey Hunt Options
Hunter Interests | 2 Tags, 2 SpeciesKansas turkey hunting of the Eastern and the Rio Grande Turkey for the do it yourself turkey hunter seeking a Kansas adventure of multiple birds and habitat variety on the same trip. Kansas has a three part turkey identity of Eastern Turkeys in the east, a band of hybrid Eastern and Rio Grande Turkey then pure Rio Grande Turkey from central Kansas westward.
Our experience from the last several seasons of both members and staff shows the Eastern, Rio-Eastern hybrid and Rio Grande Turkey distribution roughly depicted on this map. While such maps are available from a number of sources all reflecting the same general depiction it is always of interest when one or the other is found crossing distribution lines. When that happens it is typically an Eastern found farther west.
Spring SeasonKansas spring turkey season runs all day long allowing the opportunity to hunt afternoon strutting grounds as well as birds returning to roost. In the case of these last two opportunities those new to all day long hunts will find they require different tactics than morning roost ambush. Six week season. Can tag two toms in one day. Shot size is 2 - 9. Kansas is divided into turkey management units that change occasionally from year to year and from spring to fall. Every hunter will do well to draw the current hunting regulations from the state website. Spring tags are for both the Eastern and Rio Grande Turkey. The basic licenses ($73.25), $30.50 first non-resident tag and $20.50 for the second (limited to the eastern units), both may be purchased online, over the counter at any Wal-Mart or sporting goods store as well as many of the smaller town grocery stores or convenience stores.
MAHA Lease Land Location
The names on the map are the Kansas counties and the number the amount of our private land acreage within that county. Within our approach to paid hunts every member has access to all leases. As is the case for all of our hunts all wildlife is wild and on existing habitat for the self guided turkey hunter. It is however, the hunter that concentrates his effort on a set of farms from day to day, trip to trip and season to season that has the greatest success. Fall SeasonThe fall turkey season begins October first and for the most part overlaps with upland, duck and deer into January broken by the firearms deer season. Archery and gun seasons are combined and either may be used. Fall turkey season runs all day long. Dogs are permitted and up to 4 tags are available depending on the locality, each tag is for either sex. Fall season is for both the Eastern and Rio Grande Turkey. We do not have any tom only limitations and all should feel free to harvest a fall jake to have a tender Thanksgiving wild turkey for the dinner table. More To ComeThis webpage is just an introduction to our Kansas turkey hunts. The links to follow will provide a more narrative description of our hunts and what the hunter may expect. Researching this website will allow the reader to develop questions, call us to discuss opportunities available and secure references. After that it comes down to paying the price for some boots on the ground time.
