Joe O., A Missourian on Association Turkey Hunting

Recent Spring Season

Jon,

Just a short note.

Here's a couple of photo's from the past turkey season. My son Justin, shot his first bird!!! We worked hard on a gobbler off the roost, but he was occupied with hens. Called two jakes in later and Justin made a nice shot at 18 yards. He and I were both thrilled!!!

I was able to harvest a nice gobbler on the first day of the [location deleted] season. It was one of five gobblers that came running into my setup. That will get your heart a pumping'.

Thanks! Joe.

Previous Spring Season

Dear Jon, Shaun,

Enclosed are some pictures of 3 turkeys I was able to harvest on MAHA properties.

The first bird was a great hunt, I was on this turkey from the roost at sunrise 'till 10:35 AM when I finally convinced the hens he was with to come see what I was all about. He was a nice heavy 24 lb bird with 11 inch beard and 1 1/4" spurs.

I faired well in the spring. Took 2 turkeys before 7:00 AM. One in [location deleted] and one in [location deleted]. Great fast paced hunting action on both hunts. Both birds weighed in at 20 lbs ea., one had 2 beards (a 10" and a 5").

It was also the first year my son got behind the shotgun during turkey season. We had a couple of close calls (birds at 40 years), but didn't bring one home. We still had a great time spending time together! He said he will be ready to get after them again during the fall season.

Well, you just have to love turkey hunting in the spring... The sights and sounds of mother nature are at their best, finding a few morel mushrooms makes for a great meal and testing your skills against a wily old gobbler is hard to beat!!!

I know this letter is a long time coming, but I would like to thank everyone at MAHA for all your help and for some great hunting opportunities.

Thanks, Joe O.
