The need is for the Association membership to assist with keeping the open door policy toward sponsored members open and not force a waiting list. This can be done by the current members motivating their friends to join earlier in the calendar year rather than waiting until the start of the season to apply for membership. If this could be accomplished we will be able to better manage the diminishing resource of open memberships during a time of increased application while maintaining our open door policy to sponsored applicants allowing immediate entry into the Association. Toward the end of summer and well ahead of the fall seasons we cease our land contracting efforts and that sets the membership level for the remainder of the year. Those applying for membership after we fix the levels may find themselves on a waiting list rather than hunting.
The bottom line is to get your friends into the Association during the first six months of the calendar year rather than wait for the annual rush. The benefits are many. First and foremost there is not any question that applicants will be hunting; scouting may be done at a leisurely pace; motel reservations made early to ensure lodging when and where desired and the more efficient the Association management the better the service received by its members. In this case better managed land. Nothing worthwhile ever comes without a cost. This includes our membership. Simply paying money to hunt is not enough. Personal conduct and support are required. This is one of the many difference between an Association and a land broker. The choice is yours.
Fall turkey hunters are a minority within MAHA. We do very much welcome fall turkey hunting and the fall turkey season is liberal. Fall wild turkey hunters will find vast wood acreage empty of human activity and large adult and jake flocks in more areas than will be able to be hunted. The only other activity on these leases would be deer scouting. As all scouting is by reservation the fall turkey hunter will have his areas segregated from those that are scouting.
