Cindy J. and Frank On Turkey Hunting, Ducks, Geese and Deer

With great appreciation to the James family for sharing their rare women outdoors turkey hunting story and pictures.
John, John, and Jennifer,

Thanks for- a wonderful 2001-2002 hunting season. Although the Central flyway did not yield as many ducks as last year, I still enjoyed some wonderful hunts on the farm ponds.

Several Army deployments hindered my deer hunting efforts but I still managed a nice buck. Cindy deer hunted hard (and this really hindered my deer hunting as I became #1 BABYSITTER)-- I have created a monster! Cindy passed up shots on several bucks waiting on the big one. She did finally see the "BIG ONE", but it was a poor shot over her left shoulder, in a thicket, in fading light (sound familiar?). To her credit, she did not shoot. She is a better sportsman than me (or a poorer shot) and I am proud of her for doing the right thing. A wounded and lost trophy ruins a whole hunting season (not to mention a lifetime's memory). Even though I am sure Cindy has grown tired of me explaining different ways that "I could have taken the shot." At any rate, it was a great buck--she watched it for five minutes at 40 yards and then compared it to our many whitetail mounts. It was bigger than any I have taken and he is still out there. It is still a great memory to have watched such a magnificent animal.

On a more successful note, I took two nice [location deleted] Toms this year and Cindy killed her first big Tom Turkey. She was beginning to worry me as she waited until the next to the last day of the season to do so. In her defense, every other time she turkey hunted with me, the weather failed to cooperate or the bird hung up at 60-70 yards (which caused Cindy to comment all too often on the "sex appeal" of my turkey calls ). At any rate, it was a wet and strange turkey season but another good one!

The opportunity to hunt both Kansas and Missouri remains one of the best things about Mid-America (along with a friendly staff).

We appreciate the work ya'll do creating these opportunities.

Thanks as always, Frank and Cindy James
